whats up

Hi there,
We are just trying to keep you posted of what is going on here in this country. Since we live in an area where one major tribe lives, we can say that we are quite ok for now. But tensions are very high, and everyone who is not of this particular community does not sleep at night, many of them are scared to death. This afternoon I went out to buy some wheat and other foodstuffs and even airtime for the mobile phones, all these things are commodities which have become very rare in this country, things we have taken for granted most of the time. Yesterday I was trying to get fuel for the car, and I was very happy to get at least a tank full of Diesel. Just in case things worsen and we have to go to other places it is good to have enough fuel to reach any border which is safe. The place I was doing my shopping was overcrowded with internal refugees, hundreds and hundreds of them, and more were coming in, especially Kikuyus from the Massai tribal areas. People were killed and properties burned, many of those who are running for their lives they have nothing but a few clothes and their lives. Even in our Hospital, as the roads are opening up a bit, we get victims from Nairobi who need to be patched up again.
It is a very sad time for this generally peaceloving nation. We just hope that the leaders, both of the government and also the opposition, would put their differences aside and sit together to find a solution in order to stop the bloodshed and destruction of property.
We are waiting for the big day tomorrow where the Oppositionleader wants to mobilize hundreds of thousands of supporters so that they can declare their stand. Many are expecting losses of lives because the government policy has been: shoot and kill. If they do that tomorrow aswell, many people will suffer and the anger is going to completely blow out of proportion .
We as a station continue to pray for peace and while we do so, we observe the situation very carefully and try to get all pieces of information together.
Have a lovely day, I will keep you posted as things unfold here in Kenya, Thomas
