Hi there,
It seems the situation has calmed down enough that I don't write as frequently as I used to during the worst crisis. Of course life has become a bit normal again. Benjamin went back to school on 9th. But for Hanna-Joy school hasn't started yet. Her's is going to open on 19th this month. The official opening day was the 3rd of this month. Abdi is also going back to his school next week.
Lots of people are flying in from outside the country, that is why everybody was told to hold on a bit so that we can see what the political situation is going to be. For the last few days it looks good, but the opposition wants to try it again with mass rallies in many different places simultanouesly. We will see how things gonna go. We just feel so much for our friends from the tribes who have their homes in other places in the country. Many of them are already packing their things and leave, or at least bring their wifes and children to safer places. Nobody feels safe and good anymore these days. Even in our Hospital Chapel you can see that there are almost only people from the local tribe, the others don't dare to go out at night or mix too freely with the other community. It is terrible to watch.
Just a few days ago, on Wednesday, I had the opportunity to go to Eastleigh in Nairobi with a bunch of Doctors from the Hospital here. We had a Paediatrician, a Gynacologist and a family practitioner. It was just nice to see the appreciation of the local Somali people when help comes and someone evidently cares about them. We saw roughly 60 patients with multiple problems.
Interestingly, that part of town, which used to be the area where white people were rarely seen, is now an area where one can feel quite safe, because the majority of the people are Somalis and they can't care less about Kenyan politics. They've got enough problems in their own country.
Even Northeastern Kenya these days is quite a nice destination if one wants to travel safely in Kenya.
Our prayers are still going out to the throne of God on behalf of those who are suffering here in this country, and that peace and stability may return. God is in control.
bye, Thomas
