Just a few glimpses from the Senior Banquet 2013 where the junior class, that is Benjamins class prepares a very special Banquet for the graduating class which is Hanna-Joys class. Since September last year the junior class was busy preparing this special evening and the day finally came last Friday and it was a blast for both of the classes. The theme, which was kept a secret from the seniors, was the famous Titanic. The school hall was transformed into the dining hall of the ship which sank in 2012 after colliding with an iceberg.
The class also performed a drama with Jack and Rose's lovestory. On the weekend before the actual banquet the class tried to get as many parents from all over East Africa to help in building this magnificent ship. Many came and within a week there was the inside of the ship and on that evening it looked like the first class dining hall of the Titanic. All the kids were dressed up and looking amazing.
After all was done everyone was pretty tired and exhausted but really happy because it was a awesome display of teamwork and creativity. And really most of the work was done by the students. There was help from the parents and it was necessary. But the thoughts and ideas and most of the hard work was put in by the class of 2014 and then they will be blessed with a similar treat when they are about to graduate.

Senior Banquet 2013
Hallo,
Letztes Wochenende war das grosse Ereignis fuer die 11. und 12. Klasse an der Rift Valley Academy hier in Kijabe. Monatelang wurde von der 11. Klasse fuer dieses besondere Wochenende geplant und vorbereitet. Am Wochenende vor dem grossen Ereignis wurden soviele Eltern wie moeglich zusammengetrommelt damit das Thema das lange vorher von der Klasse ausgewaehlt wurde nun als Buehne aufgebaut werden konnte. Das Thema dieses Jahres war die Titanic, das legendaere Schiff das 1912 auf ihrer Jungfernfahrt in die USA von England einen Eisberg rammte und unterging. Dazu wurde ein Drama einstudiert und dann waehrend des Abends zwischen den Gaengen gespielt. Natuerlich waren die Maedels und die Jungs ganz fein rausgeputzt und zeigen ihre schoensten Seiten. Hier sind einige Bilder von unseren Kids mit ihren Partnern fuer den Abend.
Es wurde unglaublich viel Kreativitaet in diesen Abend investiert und es war klasse zu sehen wie aus einer groben Idee eine rundum gelungene Sache wurde. Jeder der Kids war involviert und alle haben mit zugepackt. Am Schluss waren alle ziemlich fertig aber auch gluecklich zu sehen dass ihre Arbeit und Einsatz sich echt gelohnt haben.

Tod eines Maertyrers
Hallo,
Ich wollte hier an dieser Stelle kurz berichten dass ein guter Freund von uns diese Woche in Garissa umgebracht wurde. Ich komme gerade von einer sitzung wo wir uns gemeinsam Gedanken gemacht hatten wie wir unserem Bruder eine ordentliche Beerdigung zuteilen koennen die seinem tragischen Tod und seinem Leben mit dem er furchtlos fuer Jesus einstand, gerecht werden koennen.
Es war am Donnerstag gegen 11 Uhr vormittags als unser Bruder Abdi Welli mit seinem Fahrzeug unterwegs war um in der Provinzhauptstadt Garissa einige Erledigungen zu machen. Er war mit seinem Freund Pastor Ibrahim unterwegs und auf dem Weg wollte sie die Frau von Ibrahim mitnehmen die in der Stadt neben einer Bank wartete. Als Abdi Welli sein Auto wegen dichten Verkehrs etwas abbremste und schliesslich anhalten musste um Pastor Ibrahims Frau zusteigen zu lassen, stand ploetzlich ein in einem weissen Kanzu gekleideter Mann neben dem Auto und eroeffnete das Feuer. Der erste Schuss ging durch Pastor Ibrahims Schulter. Wie durch ein Wunder nur eine Fleischwunde.
Die anderen drei Schuesse waren aus allernaechster Naehe auf Abdi Welli gerichtet und haben ihn sofort getoetet.
Ganze 10 Minuten hat niemand reagiert um nach den Insassen des wagens zu sehen. Der Taeter konnte ohne Eile die Szene verlassen, lief durch die Menschenmenge, war nicht maskiert.
Unmittelbar neben der Mordszene waren Wachsoldaten die die Bank bewachten, auch hier keine Bewegung, keine Anteilnahme oder Verfolgung in irgeneiner Art. Garissa war und ist in Schweigen gehuellt. Sicher zum Teil aus Furcht, aber zum grossen Teil auch aus einem Gefuehl dass endlich das Uebel aus der Stadt geschafft wurde. Das Uebel wird in diesem Teil des Landes so verstanden dass jeder der Islam den Ruecken kehrt des Todes wuerdig ist. Viele wollten Abdi Welli lieber tot als lebendig sehen. Als sie dann endlich vom Tod von unserem Bruder Abdi Welli erfuhren ging eine Welle der Befriedigung durch die Stadt. Sicher nicht alle, aber doch viele haben den Tod unseres Bruders gefeiert.
Er hat vielen seiner Leute geholfen und gutes getan wo er nur konnte. Er hat eine grosse Luecke hinterlassen und der ganze Leib Christi trauert um diesen treuen Diener Christi.

It is a sad moment for the christian community in Kenya, East Africa and worldwide. Our dear brother Abdi Welli has died on Thursday in Garissa. Just now I am from a meeting for the burial of our dear and beloved brother who has faithfully served the Lord in a dangerous area. He has been threatened countless times and has continued to uphold the testimony of Jesus. He has been threatened so that he could deny Jesus and save his own life but he refused to do that since he knew that there is only one way and one truth and his name is Jesus.
On Thursday morning at 11 am he was driving in his own car together with a pastor friend in the busy town of Garissa right next to a bank. He had to go slow and stop in order to pick somebody from a shop. Just as he stopped the car to allow the person to enter the car a man in a Kanzu showed up at the window of the car. He immediately opened fire and shot the Pastor first. The bullet went through the shoulder and came out without destroying any vital organs and not even a bone.
The shooting continued and the gunmen targeted our brother Abdi Welli from a very close range and killed him with three bullets and he died instantly.
After the killer was done nobody came to the scene but he could just walk away, not even running. The bystanders didnt do anything, the watchmen around the bank only watched and he could escape in the town. Probably many people know him but silence is gripping the town. Partly because of fear and partly because they are in support of the killing. Many people in this town wanted to see Abdi welli dead and indeed they were celebrating his death and promised that many others who are like him would follow.
It is a very sad moment for all of us here. But I thank the body of Christ that there is unity and now we are working together to get the preparations for a funeral ready that honors Christ and honors Abdi Welli as a true servant of the Lord who was ready to die for what he really believed.
