Solar cooking

Hello,
this is our contribution to conserve energy and use the energy that is readily available here in Kenya. We have plenty of sunshine here and that's all that is needed. We used to really enjoy it in Wajir where the climate is very different from the one in Kijabe.
When we came to Kijabe we almost forgot about it until we felt we needed to assemble it again and use it for our own cooking but also for others see how useful it is. Especially in our area around Kijabe we have the immense problem of deforestation and really no good alternatives for fuel. This cooker could be a good investment for the local population.
The idea: sunbeams are bundled and directed towards the pot by the reflector. They can heat the pot to temperatures of more than 200 degree celsius. The reflector has the shape of a parabola, to concentrate the solar energy efficiently. The deep  curvature ensures that the adjustments towards the sun is required only every 20 minutes, and that the hot pot is in a safe position.
The cooker used to be available at a workshop run by Trans World Radio, not sure whether it is still being produced but it would be worthwhile to get it going again.

Would be nice if we could have some of you over for some nice solar cooked meal.
Bye for now
