Hello from Velbert,
Home assignment takes you to a lot of different places. Some of them are just fun because it takes you back to your roots. The first picture shows us in front of the Bible school where everything started. Thats the place I got to know my sweetheart and it was mor than twenty years since we last had an official visit. It was a lot of fun to talk to the current students about our work and more so about the work of God we are privileged to have witnessed.
Other places are not so much fun because they signify the human tragedy we are currently watching through our news channels and also right next door in the refugee homes that are popping up almost everwhere and everytime.
Just imagine you have to sit in one of these flimsy boats and cross the mediterranean sea, knowing very well that many before you have died in the sea. But on the other hand you are one of the lucky ones who made it through the desert already and you know deep down that you have only one shot. If you make it to Europe you can at least survive and try to make a living and send money back to the family. If you choose to stay, the only option is to fight alongside the terror militia or get shot right there. So it makes sense that so many dare to cross the desert and the sea with the hope that it will get better. Some of the guys who have made it are the fine young men here between myself and my friend Piero.
Next to the places a regular Home assignment would take you are the places we were privileged to travel because of our kids new assignments. Benji is in the neighbourhood of Stuttgart and Hanna-Joy is in the old city of Freiburg, It was fun to work out all those details to see that each one is taken care of.
Here are also a couple of pictures of the programs our kids have joined. They are both happy to be where they are now
